Recognizing and Thanking Others with BaylorPLUS

November 8, 2022

This is a time of year when many reflect on what they are grateful for and the people who matter most to them. As a leader at Baylor, you may be thinking about your team and how to thank each person for their contribution and all the amazing work they do in service of our mission.

Although it's always nice to hear a simple, heartfelt "good job," the best thank yous and acknowledgements are not just sincere, but also specific. This lets the other person know what you are recognizing them for and its impact or importance for you.

There is no one perfect way to do this. Depending on the circumstances, it might be done in a quick email or message, during a one-on-one meeting, as a nice call out in a team meeting, through a thank you note (maybe even mailed to their home address) or on a team kudos board highlighting compliments and positive feedback submitted by constituents.

Additionally, BaylorPLUS Salute is a formal way for managers – or anyone – to recognize individual faculty and staff, or even teams, who go above and beyond. There is a simple nomination form available at www.baylor.edu/hr/recognition.

Everyone nominated receives an electronic certificate from Human Resources along with mention in the BU@Work newsletter. One individual and one team are then selected from the previous year's nominations to be recognized at the annual Staff Awards event.

Additionally, encouraging everyone in area to recognize and thank co-workers, peers, or any faculty, staff member, or team who has exceeded their expectations by nominating them for a BaylorPLUS Salute is an additional way to reinforce a feedback culture in your team or department.
