Supporting Baylor’s Employee Resources Groups

What are Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)?

One way Baylor demonstrates its commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace is through Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). ERGs are voluntary, employee-led groups consisting of faculty and staff that aim to foster a sense of community, provide support, and promote the interests of employees from traditionally underrepresented groups within an organization. These groups are open to all faculty and staff and serve as a vital resource for employees from diverse backgrounds, offering a platform for networking, professional development, and advocacy. Baylor’s current ERGs include:

  • Asian American & Pacific Islander Faculty & Staff Association (AAPIFSA)
  • Black Faculty & Staff Association (BFSA)
  • Jewish Faculty & Staff Association (JFSA)
  • Latinx Faculty & Staff Association (LFSA)
  • Military-Connected Faculty & Staff Association

Tips on how you as a leader can support employee participation in ERGs:

  1. Demonstrate Support: Show support by attending ERG events yourself and supporting employee requests to participate.
  2. Recognize Contributions: Acknowledge the efforts of employees involved in ERGs and highlight their contributions to the team and organization.
  3. Promote Diversity & Inclusion: Emphasize the importance of ERGs in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace.
  4. Offer Flexibility: Allow faculty and staff to have the opportunity to participate in ERG meetings and events during work hours, if possible.
