LEAD Program Mentors Needed

LEAD

Here's a great opportunity to give back to our community. The Leadership, Education and Development (LEAD) program is looking for mentors starting immediately. LEAD is a business and education program through the Waco Chamber that connects local high school students with business leaders to foster mentoring relationships that educate and expose students to various business fields and educational opportunities in the Greater Waco area. LEAD mentors are committed to the development of low-income students with leadership potential who need guidance and encouragement towards the pursuit of higher education and career goals, which in turn ensures greater employability and quality of life. Baylor University believes strongly in the mission of this program and has been a sponsor for many years.

Started in 2005, LEAD began at Waco High School with five students and one local business leader within the Chamber network to address concerns of low-income students contributing to low graduation rates, which in turn limits the talent pool for the local workforce and impacts quality of life. The program is currently at 10 high schools where 93 percent of students are economically disadvantaged: Waco High School, University High School, Rapoport Academy, Midway High School, La Vega High School, the Methodist Children’s Home, Robinson High School, Lorena High School, Connally High School and Harmony School of Innovation.
