FWS Student Worker Wages Reimbursement Incentive

August 23, 2023

Baylor University is blessed to have so many campus partners supporting Student Employment through the hiring and professional development of its students.  In support of these efforts, beginning August 21, 2023, with the Fall 2023 Semester, Baylor University will reimburse departments up to 50% of federal wages paid from department accounts to Federal Work Study (FWS) student workers.  Reimbursement amounts will be determined based on increased hiring and retention of FWS student workers and will be disbursed at the end of each fall and spring semester.  These funds will be entered into a roll-over reserve account for the hiring department that can be used by the department as a means to reinvest in their student worker wages and/or to provide more student employment job opportunities within the department.  These funds will not expire at the end of the fiscal year.

Departments that support Student Employment efforts at the University have a unique opportunity to coach and mentor student workers for a better career and pathway for worldwide leadership and service.  This new reimbursement incentive aims to prioritize FWS student worker jobs and hiring, increase engagement between managers and student employees, provide meaningful work experiences for students, and maintain a thriving student presence on campus.

Additionally, we hope that this FWS Student Worker Wages Reimbursement Incentive helps provide departments with more flexibility in budgeting and spending as well as increase interest in the utilization of a powerful workforce resource – Student Employment.
