Important Notice: Mandatory Reporting for Title IX & Civil Rights

January 5, 2024

Baylor Policy and Texas law requires any employee of a college or university in Texas to report to the Title IX Coordinator any information regarding an alleged incident of sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence, or stalking, committed by or against a person enrolled at or employed by the institution at the time of the incident. This requirement is for all employees with information both direct and indirect to notify the Title IX Coordinator even if you believe someone else has reported the information. Failure to report may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination while violations of the specific law (Texas Senate Bill 212) requires colleges to terminate employment for employees who fail to report such matters and imposes criminal penalties of up to a year in jail.

Baylor University also prohibits unlawful Discrimination and Harassment against or by faculty, staff, students, volunteers, and contractors because of race, color, disability, national and ethnic origin, sex, pregnancy, age (over 40), genetic information or the refusal to submit to a genetic test, or protected veteran status. All supervisors are Mandatory Reporters. This includes student-employees who are in supervisory positions. Supervisors are required to report immediately to the Equity Office any information they know about suspected or potential harassment or discrimination on the basis of protected characteristics. Failure by a Supervisor to report suspected or potential violations of this Policy in a timely manner may subject them to discipline, up to and including termination of employment. Individuals who are not supervisors, are strongly encouraged to report to the Equity Office any information they know about suspected or potential violations of this Policy. Please reach out to the Title IX office if you have questions at 254-710-8454 or TitleIX_Coordinator@baylor.edu.
