Staff Performance Reviews Begin March 1

February 22, 2024

The 2023-24 Staff Performance Reviews will be kicking off on March 1 and most of the process is very similar to previous years, with one notable change. See below for details.

Timeline?

This timeline is very similar to last year’s, with a few minor differences because of how the weekends fell this year.

  • March 1: process begins.
  • March 20: deadline for staff to complete their self-evaluations in Ignite.
  • April 12: deadline for managers to complete their reviews of their employees in Ignite.
  • April 26: final day of the process and deadline for managers and employees to complete their discussions of the performance review and sign off in Ignite.

Please note, there is no need to wait for the deadline of one step before beginning the next. As soon as the employee has completed their self-evaluation, the manager can submit their review and the discussion can be held. If the employee and manager both completed their parts right away, it would be possible to be completely finished in early March.

Who is Reviewed?

All full-time and part-time staff hired before December 1, 2023 participate in the review process. This includes both grant-funded and post-doc positions. Those hired after December 1, 2023 and temporary staff may participate upon request.

What has Changed?

This year, the names of the ratings were changed based on feedback from managers and employees to provide greater clarity. The underlying ratings have not changed, just the names. The intent is to provide better understanding of each rating and greater consistency. The original rating names and the new names are:

  • Area of Concern - Does Not Meet Expectations
  • Area of Needed Development - Inconsistently Meets Expectations
  • Area of Competence - Consistently Meets Expectations
  • Area of Mastery - Consistently Exceeds Expectations

These ratings are explained in much greater detail in this guide.
